About This Course
Why is green important to us?
It is an integral part of our environment; having flowers and green plants around us is important in many ways. It is no coincidence that the rain forests are the lungs of the Earth. In addition, of course, the green environment has many benefits. For example, it affects the microclimate – there is a microclimate of a street in a city covered by asphalt with polluted air and a wonderful forest clearing; the stable has a separate microclimate, but so does the windier and sunnier area of our garden.
If we want to take a broad view of the positive effects of the plants in our environment, in addition to the basic physiological and biological benefits, we must not forget about the psychological and mental benefits that accrue to us in their company. I don’t think anyone needs explanation why it is that in the forest or in a park, in general, everyone calms down rather than becomes nervous. Why is it that in the soft lap of nature, everyone prefers to enjoy the view and the environment that surrounds them; so you experience positive feelings when you look at trees, their branches, bushes or flowers.
Even during the pandemic, one of the last psychological refuges for many was to be able to go out into the nature – this was generally allowed throughout Europe, without any restrictions. We can achieve the same feeling of life in a small way, including a positive psychological effect, if we turn the balcony or terrace of a few square meters of our own garden or apartment into a blooming oasis.
The tastefully planted gardens, parks, courtyards and balconies fill us with a good feeling, this is where the educational effect comes from, we will try to create something similar in our own environment, to shape the landscape according to its example. The educational effect also appears in the orderly environment by the fact that we litter less there: if we go to a place where everything is orderly and clean, there is less chance of throwing away even a cigarette. This effect is magnified if we have created the environment ourselves, because who would want to destroy the work of their own hands?
We can be inspired by the balcony gardens shown in the presentation videos above.
